Introducing illustrator Daphne van den Heuvel
Daphne van den Heuvel is an Amsterdam based illustrator and designer. She studied Fashion design at the established Gerrit Rietveld Academy. After her studies she decided to focus on illustrating and has been involved in numerous projects with a wide variety from logo design to print design but also for books, blogs and magazines.
The love for art started at a very young age. Her grandfather was a painter and together they spent a lot of time colouring and painting all sorts of animals and flowers. At the age of 20 she saw the work of Egon Schiele at an exhibition in Amsterdam and was convinced that she definitely wanted to follow her passion in illustrating. I really love her illustrations of the English actress Jane Birkin who was married with the French singer Serge Gainsbourg.
When I asked Daphne if there are any Dutch illustrators she likes, her answer was right away the fashion illustrator Piet Paris who after Vogue now works for Dutch Harper’s Bazaar. New York fashion designer Tanya Taylor noticed images of Daphne on Tumblr and got in touch with her. For her spring/summer 2014 collection the designer needed prints and thought it would be a fresh idea to work with Daphne.
Her passion became her work and she is living her big dream with nice projects coming up in the future. A new Japanese department store is working with Daphne as we speak. I am truly happy we got to meet eachother and I am definitely a fan of her work. See you soon darling!
